There’s nothing like a piping hot cup of fresh coffee and a light and fluffy, sweet and sticky, halo-shaped treat to go along with it. Living up to its angelic reference, doughnuts are a symbol of the start of the day or in my case, the start of a sugar rush anytime of the day. If you happen to be passing through Atlanta and you have a craving for Vegan pastries that taste like heaven, be sure to drop by –
Revolution Doughnuts & Coffee
What I Like:
Established in 2012, Revolution Doughnuts & Coffee is a charming, family-owned coffee and sweet treat bistro located in the heart of Decatur, Georgia. Catering to a healthy sweet-tooth, Revolution Doughnuts & Coffee prides itself on creating all natural (nothing artificial), handcrafted, pastries derived from high-quality ingredients void of trans fats. Revolution Doughnuts & Coffee received press from The Food Network and The Cooking Channel. They’ve been named one of the “Top 25” Doughnut Shops in America and one of VegNews’ 2015 Top 10.
What I Love:
Most restaurants that I frequent are not exclusive to Vegans. In those cases, there are usually one or two Vegan-options available on the menu. Revolution Doughnuts & Coffee breaks the mold by providing lots of Vegan pastry options – not just one or two. Here are some of Vegan pastry options you can chow down there.
Fluffy Filled Rounds: seasonal jam, lemon curd, almond-joy nut, and fresh fruit (like Georgia peaches) slider.
Fluffy Yeast-Style: raspberry sprinkle, cinnamon sugar, true blueberry, dark chocolate, vanilla bean (my favorite so far), orange pistachio, and cinnamon apple fritter (my runner-up).
Dense and Moist Baked Cake: toasted almond, carrot cake, and shredded coconut.
Crunchy Cake-Style: dark chocolate.
My personal favorites are the yeast-style pastries. So far, I haven’t met a doughnut there that I didn’t like. I sure you will say the same.
My hero tip is to go early in the day. College Avenue – Decatur, GA. They’re also found in local farmer’s markets. Visit the site for more details.
